Faculty’s Student Advice Centers
Advice centers for students
The Student Advice Centers (SSC) at the Faculty of Sciences bundle decentralized advisory services at Department and subject level. As part of their cross-sectional tasks within the Faculty of Sciences, SSCs mediate between the Central Student Advice Center (ZSB), student advisory services, and examination boards. They promote the exchange of experience between student advisors and examination boards. They are the first point of contact for all first-year students and students of a subject as well as for prospective students who would like more detailed information about a subject. This includes the following advice:
- on the course of study
- on course content
- the organization of studies
- career prospects
- how to deal with problems in everyday study life
- subject-specific admission requirements
The Student Advice Centers actively approach students with their advisory services and are in contact with all those responsible at departmental level. This includes professors, lecturers, student advisory services, the Dean of Studies, student representatives, representatives for severely disabled students, equal opportunities officers, decentralized administrative offices such as the departmental offices or those responsible for teaching and studies or for the IT infrastructure.
Decentralized consulting by SSCs guarantees great transparency and synergy. Time-consuming searches for the right contact person or gaps in the transfer of information are avoided. They support students in formulating efficient questions in order to relieve downstream decentralized advising units and the examination administration accordingly and sensibly.
Our SSCs create quick orientation opportunities for all students. Generous office hours make it possible to get in touch quickly if students have questions about their studies (timetable, rooms, contact persons, contact with teaching staff, student software). This is particularly important at the beginning of a degree course to ensure a quick and smooth start.
