Research

FAU is one of Germany’s leading research universities. Its major research areas are focused on the challenges which society currently faces – from energy reform to demographic development. Researchers at the Faculty of Sciences are involved in six of the eight major research areas. They take part in interdisciplinary projects, participate in national and international research groups, and work closely with institutions such as the Cluster of Excellence “Engineering of Advanced Materials”, the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, the Medical Valley EMN and the Energy Campus Nürnberg. These achievements are recognised with national and international academic awards and excellent positions in research rankings.
